Biography

  


Dr. Reverie Berger, a native of Southern California, began performing at the age of eight in church and musicals, and continued her musical education by attending the University of Michigan for her undergraduate work.  After developing a love for classical music, she continued her studies at the Manhattan School of Music, then later returned to the University of Michigan to complete a Doctorate of Musical Arts.  

Dr. Berger has been fortunate to work with and learn from artists and teachers such 
as Freda Herseth, Martin Katz, Patricia Misslin, George Shirley, Joshua Major and Kenneth Kiesler.  
She has attended the summer programs at Brevard Music Center, Opera Theater of Lucca, was a Young Artist with Chicago Opera Theater, and attended the Mentor Program of SongFest in Los Angeles.  This past summer, she was honored to participate in The Naked Voice Institute at Northwestern University, learning from renowned pedagogue, W. Stephen Smith.

Highlights of her performance experience include singing the roles of  Hansel in Hansel and Gretel (First Coast Opera), Cherubino in The Marriage of Figaro (Peach State Opera), Soloist in Sophisticated Ladies and Sister Berthe in The Sound of Music (Atlanta Lyric Theatre), La Ciesca in Gianni Schicchi (Capitol City Opera), and Third Secretary in Nixon in China (Chicago Opera Theater).  Other favorite roles performed include Elmire in Tartuffe, Dinah in Trouble in Tahiti, Valetto in L’Incoronazione di Poppea, and Annina in La Traviata. Concert work includes mezzo soloist in Rutter’s Feel the Spirit, Handel's Messiah, Bach’s Magnificat, and roles in a concert version of L’Enfant et les Sortilèges with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra.  Dr. Berger attended summer programs at Opera Theater of Lucca and Brevard Music Center, and was a Young Artist with Chicago Opera Theater.  She was also recently the Southeastern Regional Winner of the NATS Artists Awards competition and a National Semi-finalist.   She is active  as a performer and teacher in the Atlanta area, including being a part of the voice faculty at Reinhardt University for the past 7 years.  Her students have won awards in the Schmidt Youth Competition, Rome Symphony Orchestra Youth Competition, and in State, Regional and National NATS Competitions.
